Platter’s Chocolates is hosting our Third Annual Sponge Candy Festival Friday, September 20th through Saturday, September 21st. This will be a fun, family-oriented event to raise money for a charity that has captured the hearts of all us here at Platter’s Chocolates – Olivia’s Bears.
In the past all proceeds from Sponge Candy Fest have been donated to Samaritan’s Purse U.S. Disaster Relief Foundation and although as a company we still support the mission of Samaritan’s Purse we have decided that this year we wanted to make a difference in the lives of those in our local community and we feel strongly about the mission of Olivia’s Bears. It’s a wonderful organization that was started by a young woman right here in our local community. All of us at Platter’s Chocolates are so excited to support this local organization and we hope you are too!

The festival kicks off on Friday, September 20th, with a Gala at Events at the Wurlitzer! There will be hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, music and dancing, as well as, a sit-down dinner. More information on the Gala will be coming soon! All this excitement builds up to our feature event on Saturday, September 21st, which consists of a 5k run, 50/50 split, and basket raffles.
At 3:30 pm, the third annual “Run for Sponge” 5k will commence. Our neighbors at Woodcock Brother’s Brewing will have food, refreshments, and live music to keep the party going after the race! There will be prizes, giveaways, and of course LOTS of sponge candy! Net proceeds from the race will be donated to Olivia's Bears!
The race will start on Ohio Street and finish in front of the Platter's Chocolate factory in the newly renovated Wurlitzer Building in North Tonawanda, New York using USATF Certified Course #NY15045. All participants will receive sponge candy and fruit, yogurt, snacks, and bottled water will be served at the finish line.
All race participants and supporters are invited to stick around Platter's Chocolate for the post-race celebration. There will be fruit, yogurt, snacks, bottled water, prizes and giveaways, and of course the awards ceremony. Our neighbors at Woodcock Brother’s Brewing will have food, beer, refreshments, and live music to keep the party going after the race!

REGISTRATION & PACKET PICKUP
Online registration will remain open right up until the night before the race. Race day registration and packet pickup will take place inside the Wurlitzer Building from 2:00 pm right up until the start of the race at 3:30 pm.

*All participants who register by 9/13/19 will be guaranteed to receive an official Sponge Candy 5K t-shirt! Those who register after this date will be provided with a shirt (if available) on a first come-first serve basis.
Many people have asked if there was a way to support the fundraising effort without participating in the race. We have setup an additional registration option that allows people to donate $25 and still receive an official race shirt and sponge candy sample (to be mailed after the race). If you wish to make a larger donation, please mail your check to the address shown below. Thanks for your support!
POST RACE CELEBRATION
There will be plenty of free parking at the Wurlitzer Building with overflow parking available at Walmart.
AGE GROUPS & AWARDS
Amazing chocolate gift baskets and custom race medals will be presented to the 1st place overall male and female 5K finishers and custom race medals will be presented to the top three male and female 5K runners in each of the following age groups:
Age Groups: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49. 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75 and older.

TIMING & FINISH LINE SERVICES
Gun start/chip finish timing services using industry leading Jaguar Electronic RFID timing will be provided by Race Management Solutions. Results are updated throughout the race in real time and can be accessed at any time after crossing the finish line using any one of the following options:

Race participants can also use the ITSYourRace platform to view and share finish line photos with family and friends for free on Facebook. Custom finisher certificates can also be downloaded from the results page at no charge!
